All good things must come to an end and unfortunately, Finda Toowoomba was one of those things. Finda’s demise means I’ve had to leave Toowoomba too, which is a real shame. I was just getting settled in!
Still, life goes on and I managed to wrangle a month of work producing radio with ABC Sunshine Coast, bouncing between the Breakfast, Mornings and Drive shows.
I produced the drive shift on Monday and was chatting with the presenter Jess Hinchliffe after the show when a very harried-looking Nat Brunovs came through the door. Nat is the Sunshine Coast’s ABC Open producer and a gun wedding photographer, and she mentioned she was desperately looking for someone to look after her house and her dog up in the hinterland for a few days. I mentioned I was needing a place to stay and voila! Problem solved.
So this is where I’ve been living since last Wednesday:

And this is Oscar, Nat’s five-year-old Portugese Water Dog. When he gets excited, he picks things up and carries them around. I was particularly impressed by his ability to bark while holding a large couch cushion in his mouth.

I produced Breakfast for most of last week, a shift which requires a tonne of PMA. While the 3:30AM wake-up call is horrible, there is a lot to be said for finishing your working day at midday, especially when you’re working near the beach.
Even though I’ve been going to bed at 7:30PM and being sensible about my caffeine intake, I’ve had my share of sleep-deprivation induced gaffes. Highlights include:
- Getting pulled over by the cops at 4:30AM for a friendly chat and drug test, because “they thought I’d be an interesting person to talk to.” What the hell?
- Typing phone numbers on my computer keyboard thinking it was the phone and panicking when I didn’t hear a dial tone.
- Pouring sugar into the portafilter of my coffee maker and wondering why the water coming out wasn’t brown.
- Turning the office upside-down looking for my car keys before realising I’d left them in the ignition when I arrived at work eight hours earlier.
We did an outside broadcast yesterday from the Body Art Carnivale at the Eumundi markets. If you live in south-east Queensland and haven’t been before, you should definitely check it out. Eumundi itself is very pretty with good shops and the markets are chockers with good food and slightly less good craft.
We managed to rope a local swimmer into being our body art victim, and the artist was very pleased with her “nice firm canvas.” Our presenter Rob was also impressed, but in a much less pervy way.

I’m doing Mornings this week with a 5:30AM wake-up. It’s practically a sleep-in!
- Head over to Flickr to see my photos of the Sunny Coast and hinterland, as well as photos from the Body Art Carnivale.
