RESCUED FROM WHOTHEHELL.NET: Streamer Bendy

Streamer Bendy - You’re so cool from Streamer Bendy on Vimeo.

Almost five years ago, I was dating a guy who was in a band with Erinn Swan. It was a pretty dysfunctional outfit - Erinn was (and is) a pop singer and the rest of the band were writing nu-metal songs. As much as I love both those genres, it kind of didn’t work. The guys and assorted hangers-on would mock Erinn about her stylistic similarities to Hayley Williams, Avril Lavigne and her good friend Jess Origliasso of The Veronicas.

Well, the joke is on them now, because Erinn is now fronting a kick-ass pop band named Streamer Bendy. They put out a relatively raw E.P. at the start of 2009, and then hopped a plane to Stockholm to write and record with pop producers who have worked with Pink, J.Lo and Christina Aguilera.
If you’re going to do pop music, Scandinavia is the place to go, and apparently they’re already in talks with major labels and bookers in Europe.

This song is incredibly poppy, and built for the commercial arena – Video Hits, Austereo, etc. That’s not a bad thing – writing a good pop song is an art and a craft.

They’ve chosen to sidestep  the circle jerk that is the Brisbane and Australian music industry, where musicians whore themselves out for Triple J airplay while playing shitty dives in an attempt to keep their indie cred. Onya, Streamer Bendy.

[whothehell went down for a month and lost all of December’s posts. I did some good stuff during December and wanted to keep it, so I dredged it up via the RSS feed to be kept safely here.]
